RYCT off-the-beach sailor Jock Calvert has finished his European tour this year with a satisfying 10th overall in this past week;s International Finn U23 World Championship.
With no consistent wind, the final day of racing at Koper in Slovenia saw no races completed, giving Jock no opportunity to climb back up the leader board.
“From 22nd last year to 10th this year in a fleet of 35, I can’t help but be pleased,” the young Tasmanian wrote on his Facebook page.
“Yes, I was much higher up the leader board (fourth), but 10th is still a great result, and I have a few more years as an U23!”
Jock added that in his conditions, he had the pace to be a medal contender, adding “but that’s sailing and we didn’t get the breeze I was hoping for.”
“But I learned a great deal about sailing in light winds and know it will help me make a big jump in future regattas with similar conditions,” he pointed out.
The International Finn U23 world champion for 2018 is Ondrej Teply (CZE), a previous U23 champion.
