RYCT sailors at Radial Worlds
RYCT off-the-beach sailors Nick Smart and Max Gluskie were among an Australian contingent of five boys and two girls who have just finished competing in the Laser Radial Youth World Championships at Kiel, Germany.
The huge event attracted 269 boys (sailing in four qualifying fleets) and 96 girls (two fleets) from around the world, with both boys finishing in the top quarter overall.
Both Nick and Max had results in the extremely competitive fleets, a few inconsistent results cost them a spot in the Gold fleet for the final six races, of which five were sailed.
In the Silver fleet, Nick had a 12-27-36-14-28 scorecard which lifted him from 86th to finish 81st overall.
Max, who finished the qualifying races in 113th place moved up to 96th at the end of the regatta with Silver fleet placings of 4-47-21-8-50.
The experienced gained in big fleet racing will be excellent practice for the Australian and Oceana Championships to be hosted in early January by the Mersey Yacht Club at Devonport, with racing out in Bass Strait.
