RYCT Winter Pennant winners finish on high note
The Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania’s Winter Pennant 2017 ended today with the overall winners, Wildfire and Serenity, each clinching victory with outright wins in the two divisions.
The final day was a disappointing one in fleet numbers, only three boats starting in Division 2 and four in Division 2. Weatherwise, the small fleet enjoyed a good sail on the Derwent.
Wildfire, skippered by Malcolm Robinson, cleared out from her two rivals to cross the finish line almost 10 minutes ahead and on corrected time won by more than seven minutes.
Footloose (Stewart Geeves) placed second, Frontline (Ian Snape) third. Overall, Wildfire finished the five-race Winter Series with a net four points, winning four of the five races and placing second in the other.
Frontline finished with 9 points, Footloose 10 points.
In Division 2, Graham Hall’s Serenity clinched the pennant with an outright win from Kindred Spirit (Peter Alcock) and Engenue (Nigel Johnston).
The veteran yacht Bronzewing (Derek Adams) which had been overall leader until today, finished fourth, costing her the Winter pennant by two points.
Serenity finished with q net 6 points, Bronzewing 8 points and Ingenue 10 points.
