Tasmanian yachts at Hamilton Island

Tasmanian owned yachts Alive and Infinity have had an overall division win and a second at the Audi Hamilton Island Race Week sailed in the Whitsundays last week..

Derwent Sailing Squadron entrant Alive won the ORCi category of Rating Division A. Skippered by Duncan Hine, Alive won five of the seven races on ORCi corrected time to take the series by three points from Ichi Ban, skippered by Australian Sailing president Matt Allen which won the final race.

Under IRC scoring, Division A was dominated by Hong Kong yachtsman Karl Kwok’s TP52 dominated results, winning six of the seven races. Ichi Ban finished second while Alive’s high IRC rating saw the Reichel/Pugh 66 place fifth overall.

In Cruising Division 1, Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania entrant, RIchard Fader and Greg Prescott;s Buizen 52 Infinity (on the market for $1.85m) finished a close second overall to the Victorian yacht Silver Lining.

Another RYCT entrant, Rob Fisher’s Helsal3, won race three but ended ninth overall, with a DNF in the last race.
