All courses are advertised in the monthly "In the Wind" sent to Club members. Qualify to use a Marine RadioOperators of VHF and HF radios are required by law to hold a Marine Radio Operators Certificate of Proficiency (MROCP). The next Radio Operators course will commence in October 2010. Over 4 evenings for 2 3/4 hours, this course covers regulations, correct operating procedures, distress, urgency, and safety messages and basic maintenance, EPIRBs and SARTs. Coastal Navigation CourseThe next course is planned for July 2010. The six week course covers all topics to allow safe coastal navigation without the aid of electronics. Minimum numbers required and maximum class size is 12. Fee: $285 includes all handouts, course notes, navigation chart. Do not buy any instruments for the first session. It is better to see what is available and what is best for you before committing to any costs. Bring along any navigational instruments that you currently have. Safety and Sea Survival CourseIt is a Yachting Australia requirement that at least 50% of the crew, including the skipper when racing in a Category 1 shall, and for a category 2 race it is recommended, hold a Safety and Sea Survival Course (SSSC) certificate of competence, though it is strongly recommended that for both categories of races all crew members undertake the course. Syllabus. People who cruise and do not race also gain benefit from this course. The next SSSC will commence in Monday 18 October 2010 for 4 consecutive Monday evenings.
