The Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania's marine radio station provides a free twice daily service for weather reports and yacht position recording.

Current radio sked times are based on local Australian Eastern Daylight Saving Time (currently UTC + 11 hours). Daylight Saving operates over the summer months from Sunday 7 October 2007 (2.00 am) to Sunday 30 March 2008 (3.00 am). Skeds can be arranged on higher frequencies for long distance travellers. The Club regularly skeds with yachts travelling Australia's east coast, to New Zealand, the Pacific Islands and periodically other parts of the world. In addition to the above regular sked frequencies and times, other working frequencies are available following prior arrangement with the Club. These are:

Phone: TasCoast Radio Room between hours 0800 to 0830 and 1800 to 1830 each day on (03) 6224 1441. Note: There may be delays in answering phone if the operation is on the radio. At other times during business hours leave messages with the Club Office on (03) 6223 4599. For urgent matters after hours phone 0418 127 897. If there is a known emergency the Police number is 000. Normal hours of operation for the Radio Room are for the half hours each day commencing at 0800 hours and 1800 hours local time. MMSI 005030083 TasCoast VIT 319 is equipped with a VHF DSC radio monitoring the DSC channel 70 for distress and urgency purposes. Persons wishing to test their VHF DSC radios can make prior arrangement with TasCoast to send a specifically directed digital transmission. For further information contact the station manager.
Volunteers Club members interested in volunteering for radio duty on RYCT Saturday race days, the TasCoast daily roster or for events such as the Maria Island and Sydney to Hobart races should contact the Radio Manager at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . Minimum qualification is a Marine Radio Operator's Certificate of Proficiency (MROCP) or equivalent. Regular training courses are provided for the MROCP and in the operation of the station. |
