Tasmanian youth sailor wins in NSW |

Tasmanian Angus Barton has won the Laser Radial class and the Intermediate Single Handed division of the NSW Youth Championship sailed from the Georges River Sailing Club in Sydney last weekend. Barton, a member of the Tamar Yacht and the Tasmanian Sailing Academy, scored three wins, a third and a fifth in the regatta, which was cut to two days because of lack of wind on the Sunday of the long weekend in NSW. |

Natelle Two takes Channel Race |

Glen Roper’s 34-year-old yacht Natelle Two today won the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania’s opening race of the season, the 30 nautical mile Channel Race, thanks largely to a brilliant spinnaker start and a one-tack leg from the Garrow Light to the Castray Esplanade finish. The veteran ‘two tonner’ hit the start line at full speed under her new big red and white spinnaker whilst other yachts jostled at the outer mark under mainsails and genoas before hoisting their kites. |

Huge fleet turns out for Opening Day on the Derwent |
|
A fleet of more than 200 boats, including sailing dinghies, ocean racing yachts and motor cruisers provided a spectacular display off Hobart’s waterfront this afternoon for the Combined Clubs Opening Day, which also marked the start of the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania’s 129th annual season of yachting on the River Derwent. 
These days, as the Combined Clubs Opening Day, the traditional sail past includes yachts and motor cruisers from the RYCT, Derwent Sailing Squadron, Bellerive Yacht Club and the Cruising Yacht Club of Tasmania. |

The Showdown, an exciting new regatta that promises to be Tasmania's biggest and best annual sailing event. Based at the RYCT's Sandy Bay clubhouse in Hobart and sailed on the broad waters of the River Derwent, 'The Showdown' will be a three day event starting with a twilight event for racing and cruising keelboats on the evening of Friday, 30th October. Lights winds cost Tassie crew win at Hamilton Island |

Two days of near windless sailing in the Whitsunday Islands of far north Queensland has cost the Tasmanian-chartered yacht On Location first place in PHS Cruising Division 2 of the Audi Hamilton Island Race Week. The joint skippers, prominent Hobart yacht owners Stephen Keal, Wayne Banks-Smith and Hughie Lewis, and their crew had led the series for the first four races with placings of 2-1-1-4, sailing On Location, a Bavaria 50. |

Helsal III first interstate entry for Sydney Hobart |

The first interstate application for entry for the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race 2009 has come from Dr Tony Fisher and his son Rob, who will once again campaign their Adams 20 Helsal III under the burgee of the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania. In last year’s Rolex Sydney Hobart, Rob Fisher helmed Helsal III for his father and competed against his sister Sally Smith who skippered the Dynamique 62 Helsal IV, also owned by Dr Tony Fischer. |
